Leiter is going on the road again, which usually means trouble for the veteran Marlin left-hander.
Leiter will start Game 3 at Jacobs Field on Tuesday. Leiter had been much better at home (6-2, 2.28 earned-run average) than on the road (5-7, 6.37 ERA) during the regular season.
Leiter would like to explain his problem, but he’s not sure what it is.
“I feel just as good [on the road],” Leiter said. “There is some comfort knowing you’re on a comfortable mound. There’s some places you feel better.”
Marlin Manager Jim Leyland’s rotation would be different if right-hander Alex Fernandez hadn’t suffered a season-ending tear of his right rotator cuff.
“We’ve got four starters and I feel very comfortable with all of them,” Leyland said. “You know what the biggest part is? Even if I didn’t, it wouldn’t make any difference because that’s what I’ve got.”
