Rio Mesa 21, Santa Barbara 7--Joe Martinez, a 5-foot-9, 140-pound defensive back, intercepted two passes, returning one 87 yards for a touchdown to boost Rio Mesa (3-3, 1-2) at Santa Barbara.
Martinez’s first interception set up a four-yard touchdown run by quarterback Paul Ayala in the second quarter that opened the scoring. The scoring interception return came in the third quarter and made the score 14-0.
Ayala hit Eddie Valenzuela with a 21-yard scoring pass late in the game.
