English-Only Education Debate
* Since the high school achievement scores from most of the other industrialized nations, including countries with more than one national language, often outrank ours, it is obvious that bilingual education is not the sole reason for the shortcomings in our secondary schools.
However, diverting funds and human resources from core education to foster bilingual instruction is like a leaking gas tank draining much needed resources from our school system.
The ultimate truth is that any minority group must learn the language and rules of the majority to stay in the game. Instead of spending more time and money on bilingual education, we should focus on fixing the leaking hull in our ship of education.
