St. Bonaventure Gives St. Joseph the Boot, 19-17

VENTURA — Sophomore Chris Lombardo kicked a 24-yard field goal with 10 seconds left to lift St. Bonaventure High to a 19-17 nonleague football victory over Santa Maria St. Joseph on Thursday night at Larrabee Stadium.
St. Bonaventure (3-1) started its game-winning drive on its 20-yard line with 2:49 remaining. Lombardo, who completed 13 of 25 passes for 156 yards, connected on five of seven for 57 yards during the drive, moving the ball to the Knights’ nine-yard line.
St. Joseph (2-2) took a 17-16 lead when reserve quarterback Alex Hoover teamed with Kevin Teixeira on a 30-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter.
St. Bonaventure opened the second half by driving 80 yards in seven plays, with Lombardo throwing an eight-yard touchdown pass to Mike Chase. Jesse Kirk’s second two-point conversion run gave the Seraphs a 16-10 lead.
Kirk had 155 yards in 28 carries for St. Bonaventure, including a 36-yard scoring run in the first quarter. The touchdown came on a fourth-and-one play.
The Knights scored on their first possession when Jason Neal kicked a 50-yard field goal.
St. Joseph starter Matt Cova hit Doug Bernier on a 34-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter.
Rob Richardson of St. Bonaventure caught five passes for 76 yards.
