A 38-year-old Santa Ana man was in custody Thursday on suspicion of attempted kidnapping after allegedly grabbing a woman walking her dog along Ocean Boulevard, police said.
Wayne Wonheung Kim was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail after allegedly chasing a 43-year-old Corona del Mar woman as she walked in the early morning hours Wednesday along the popular seaside stretch, according to Newport Beach Police Sgt. John Desmond.
The woman told police Kim got out of a car parked curbside and approached her in a menacing way, Desmond said. When she changed direction, he raced up behind her and grabbed her, Desmond said. She fought him off once, but he chased her down again, Desmond said.
A couple walking nearby heard the woman’s screams and came to her aide, scaring the assailant away. After a two-hour search with police dogs and a helicopter, the suspect was found and arrested, Desmond said.
