Master Gardener Training Classes

The Los Angeles County Common Ground Program is looking for people who like to garden and who want to help others by sharing their knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise.
Volunteers will be trained to become master gardeners: to work with low-income neighborhoods setting up community gardens, to help elementary school teachers with gardening activities or to work on the group’s helpline.
Certification as a master gardener requires completing the training program and volunteering at least 50 hours by June 30, 1999. Classes will be held at the Los Angeles County Cooperative Extension office at 2 Coral Circle, Monterey Park.
Application packets will be available on Dec. 1, 1997, by calling (213) 838-4540. Applications must be returned by Jan. 31, 1998.
Those chosen for interviews will attend the “Meet the Master Gardeners Morning” on March 6 and will be interviewed during the next two weeks. A fee of $75 will be due at the first meeting by those who are accepted for the program.
