School Board Picks New Administrator

A veteran school administrator from Escondido will become the Simi Valley school district’s new director of secondary education.
Michael Wray will start work in Simi on Aug. 4, supervising the district’s middle schools, high schools and adult school for an annual salary of $81,000.
District trustees picked Wray late Monday, voting for him 3 to 1 in a closed-door session. School board President Norm Walker was absent, and trustee Caesar Julian voted against hiring Wray. Julian declined to state his reasons Tuesday.
Simi interim Supt. Albert “Bud” Marley said Wray had the right background for the job. Wray currently serves as director of curriculum, instruction and assessment for the Escondido Union High School District and has also worked as a high school principal.
“I think he’s a good match,” Marley said.
