Hycor Purchases Autoimmune Test Maker

Hycor Biomedical Inc. said Monday that it has acquired Cogent Diagnostics Inc., a Scotland-based maker of medical testing kits, for about $3 million in cash and notes.

Hycor said it plans to integrate Cogent’s line of 28 testing products with its own Hy-Tec 288 system scheduled for release in the fourth quarter.

Cogent Diagnostics, which had revenue of $1.4 million last year, develops, makes and sells test kits for the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases.

Hycor Biomedical develops, produces and markets medical diagnostic products. Hycor had sales of about $20.1 million in 1996.
