Wrong-Way Driver Hits Girl on Balboa

BALBOA ISLAND — A 2-year-old Florida girl was hospitalized Monday evening after she was struck by a truck going the wrong way on a one-way street, Newport Beach police said.
The unidentified child suffered cuts and internal injuries when she was hit about 6:30 p.m. on Oynx Avenue, according to Police Sgt. Trent Harris.
The driver was not identified or cited, but the accident remains under investigation, Harris said.
A witness, Kevin Clark, said neighbors have asked police to enforce the restrictions more aggressively in an area where wrong-way drivers aren’t uncommon.
“We’ve told them that they have got to do something before someone gets hurt,” Clark said. “A lot of drivers go real fast when they go the wrong way so they don’t get caught.”
