A child-killer, who escaped from prison 35 years ago, was handed over to Texas authorities in Laredo after his capture in Mexico. Ernesto Lopez, 60, had been on the run since November 1962, when he escaped from a prison in Richmond, Texas, and fled. He was serving a life sentence for the 1956 rape and killing of 12-year-old Jeannett Mangan in Dallas. Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Larry Todd said Mexican police captured Lopez, a U.S. citizen, in the town of Penjamo near Mexico City. He said police had been watching him for 18 months.
