Extradition Contested in Baby Strangling Case

A USC student accused of strangling her baby after she gave birth in a dorm room was ordered by an Illinois judge to be held under a $1-million cash bond after she refused to waive extradition to Los Angeles where she faces murder charges.
Linda Chu, 20, was arrested at the home of her parents in Niles, Ill., on Wednesday. Cook County Criminal Court Judge William Wood continued Chu’s status hearing until July 2.
In a similar case, Jennifer Garcia, 19, a student at Cal State Fullerton, was charged Friday with murdering her infant daughter shortly after the child was born on April 10. Authorities believe the baby was strangled and left in a backyard trash bin.
