O.C. Players Win to Advance in Junior Tennis

Fullerton’s Ryan Moore won his opening match in the boys’ 18 main draw of the Southern California Junior Tennis Sectionals at Los Cabelleros Country Club in Fountain Valley.
Moore, The Times Orange County boys’ tennis player of the year from Servite, defeated Josh Stewart of Pasadena, 6-2, 6-2.
Other county players who advanced were Chris Chang of Fullerton, a recent graduate of Sunny Hills High, who beat Kevin Bezonsky of Sherman Oaks, 6-2, 6-0. Chase Exon of Irvine defeated Tim Marsh of Rolling Hills, 6-1, 6-1.
Irvine’s Gregory Levy and Exon lost in the quarterfinals of the boys’ 18 doubles.
In the girls’ 18 main draw, Nina Vaughan of Corona del Mar advanced after beating Veronica Reymosa of Oxnard, 6-1, 7-6. Also advancing from the county were Faye DeVera of Villa Park, Katey Becker of Orange and Cerissa Drumm of Huntington Beach.
In the doubles semifinals of the girls’ 18 main draw, Vaughan and Becker were defeated by Julie Anna Chidley of Riverside and Sarita Yardi of Santa Barbara, 6-3, 6-3.
