Oscar De La Hoya’s car was rear-ended by another car Sunday as the boxer was trying to steer his stalled Mercedes to a freeway shoulder in the city of Industry, the California Highway Patrol said.

De La Hoya, the World Boxing Council welterweight champion, was not injured in the incident, CHP officer Janet Engler said.

De La Hoya was driving southbound on the 605 Freeway when his car stalled. As he tried to steer to the right shoulder, the car was hit by a Honda Civic, whose driver fled the scene, Engler said.

After De La Hoya’s car was on the shoulder, it was struck by another vehicle, but this time the driver pulled over, she said.

“My car stopped on me on the freeway. I got off and ran across the freeway to call the police and when I was running, cars just smashed into my car,” De La Hoya said.
