District Overtime Pay Reduced, Report Finds
- Share via
The Los Angeles Unified School District has significantly reduced the amount of overtime being paid in three divisions that came under fire earlier this year, a consultant said Monday.
An analysis of three divisions at the heart of the district’s computerization showed a 33% decrease in the average overtime hours per employee, down from 137 to 92, said Ron Davis of the consulting firm Arthur Andersen.
Davis said the overtime paid to the 10 employees who had received the most overtime was cut nearly in half over a three-year period, from an average of 856 hours to 443.
After receiving the positive report, the board of education voted 6 to 1 with one abstention to approve an authorization of $1.75 million in overtime for the 1997-1998 budget.
