Export Lawyers and Eco-Moralists

Regarding Kenneth L. Khachigian’s column, “Time to Stand Up to Elitist Eco-Moralists,” and James L. Doti’s Orange County Voices column, “Trip to Russia Proves Why We Need Lawyers,” May 25:
Occasionally, issues come together in The Times, columns that seem to shout out wonderful solutions! The proximity of articles by my friends James Doti and Ken Khachigian are a case in point.
By any objective standard, we as a country are oppressively overburdened by an overabundance of both lawyers and eco-moralists. The need for both of these types of crusading activists in Russia is quite apparent.
Doti points out wonderfully that Russia legitimately needs lawyers to develop a dependable legal system. Khachigian points out that our eco-moralists have been extreme to the point of ludicrousness by litigating the most ridiculous issues.
Why not solve many of our problems with one bold move and help Russia solve some of hers?
Unarguably, the Russian environment is much more polluted and precarious than ours. With our excess of ambulance-chasing lawyers we could help Russia establish the system of laws she needs. Our irrational extremist band of eco-moralists could help really improve and clean up her environment.
We, on the other hand, would be free of many who are trying to bludgeon our way of life back to the Stone Age. If we can find a way to help these two groups to go help Russia, both countries would be much better off!
