A neighborhood arts group founded after the 1992 riots is holding registration today for its annual summer arts program.
Arts Mecca expects to register a record number of low-income children in programs including drumming, story writing and ceramics. Classes begin June 28 and continue through the summer.
Arts Mecca is a nonprofit organization that has raised $435,000 to renovate the aging Venice Pavilion and turn it into a community arts center. The organization has a $1.5-million goal that it hopes to reach by August.
Registration will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at 819 Millwood Ave.
