Training Is Planned for Reading Tutors

Training for badly needed Ventura County reading tutors will begin next week.

The Ventura County Library Services Agency will train volunteers Wednesday and Thursday for its English-speaking, adult literacy program.

Nearly 100 adults throughout the county will remain on waiting lists until tutors can be found, according to Pat Flanigan, volunteer coordinator.

The free training, from 9 a.m. to noon both days, will include an overview of the reading process, including vocabulary, phonics, grammar and reading comprehension.

While no teaching experience is necessary, tutors are required to be available one hour twice a week at a library branch of their choice. For more information or to enroll, call 483-6836.
