Fire Causes $1 Million Damage to Strip Mall

A fire of suspicious origin caused more than $1 million in damage in a strip mall Monday night, gutting a cleaners shop and a medical supplies store, authorities said Tuesday.

No one was hurt in the fire, although oxygen canisters from the medical supply business exploded, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

Damage was estimated at $700,000 for Valley Home Medical Supply and at $440,000 for the 1st Class Cleaners and Laundry next door, Humphrey said. Most of the damage was structural. It was not known in which business the fire started.
