Sister-City Program Is Terminated

The city has dissolved its nonprofit sister-city program with two foreign municipalities.
The city created the Los Alamitos Community Sister City Assn. Inc. and filed for nonprofit status with the state in 1986. Subsequently, it formed ties with Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and Cambridge, New Zealand.
“Neither of these relationships has proved successful in terms of shared exchanges of ideas or people,” said Gail Silva, the city’s community services supervisor.
The city will evenly distribute the remaining $866 in the nonprofit organization’s checking account to the Los Alamitos Museum and to the city’s community services scholarship, which gives financial assistance for city services to low-income families.
