Hemingway Tussle Pits Heirs, Key West

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The fight between Ernest Hemingway’s heirs and the people of Key West has entered a new round with the trading of legal punches over the author’s house. The owners of the villa, now a popular tourist draw, filed a lawsuit claiming the right to conduct tours in the house without paying a penny to his sons Jack, Patrick and Gregory. The Hemingways want to collect royalties on the tours. The lawsuit is the latest bout in a series between the Hemingway sons, Key West businesses and the organizers of the annual Hemingway Days festival over who has the right to use the Nobel Prize winner’s name and likeness.
