Re “L.A. Unified OKs Benefits for Partners,” June 3: Once again, the Los Angeles Board of Education has shown complete disregard for the needs of the schools’ clerical staff.
I am a self-motivated, single, 20-year employee, with outstanding evaluations, running a stressful front office at a school, earning less than $21,000 (gross) a year. I and other clerical staff have been denied raises for the last seven years due to “lack of school budget.” How very sad that the board feels obligated to spend millions of dollars each year extending health benefits to domestic partners of the LAUSD employees, rather than increase salaries of dedicated school workers or even upgrade our sad medical benefits!
I suspect these “domestic partners,” in a two-paycheck household, earn more than I, and can well afford to purchase their own health insurance.
