TUSTIN — A woman suspected in a hit-and-run accident was injured Tuesday during a police pursuit when her car crashed into a street sign and rolled over, police said.
The woman was trapped briefly in the car when it overturned in a field at Jamboree Road and Michelle Avenue.
Tustin police said the driver of a silver Toyota Celica was involved in a minor collision shortly after 9 p.m. at Jamboree Road and Edinger Avenue and drove away. The driver headed into Irvine, where authorities spotted the speeding car with headlights off and chased it, police said.
The chase lasted a few minutes before the car careened into several signs in the median, hit the curb and rolled over four times, police said. Officers began searching for two other people they believed may have escaped from the overturned car, but learned later that the woman was alone.
The driver was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, but the extent of her injuries was unclear late Tuesday. Her name was not immediately released.
No other injuries were reported.
