Assessing Eligibility for State Rebates

Renters and homeowners 62 and older may qualify for a residential rebate from the state.

Free counseling services to help people across the county determine if they are eligible for the program will be offered June 19, July 17 and Aug. 14 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Fullerton Senior Multi-Service Center, 340 W. Commonwealth Ave.

Marcia Taylor, a center program coordinator, said that the rebates--given annually to seniors who are at least 62, disabled or blind, earn $13,200 or less a year and pay at least $50 a month in rent or house payments--are usually about $50 a person.

“It’s not a windfall, but for these seniors, it’s nothing to sneeze at,” she said.
