Vigilante update--Mission Viejo won only three of nine on its first trip of the season and is tied for second place in the South Division, one game behind Sonoma County. There isn’t a set return date for Manager Buck Rodgers, who left the team Sunday after his mother was killed in car accident in Ohio. Third baseman Alan Burke is hitting .429 (27 for 63), second best in the league. Catcher Eric Brooks (.397) and left fielder Sam Taylor (.379) are also among the top 10.
Gull update--Former Rancho Santiago standout Brian Martineau, who was released by the Texas organization last fall, is 1-0 with a 3.48 earned-run average. Mark Kingston leads the league in hitting at .455 and Steve Dietz (.426) is third. The Gulls are in second in the North Division, four games behind Reno.
