Special Devices Posts 61% Rise in Net Income

Special Devices Inc. posted a 61% jump in its second quarter net income on a 35% rise in sales.
The Newhall-based maker of trigger devices for automotive air bags had net income of $2.46 million in the quarter that ended May 4, compared with net income of $1.52 million a year earlier. Sales in the latest quarter rose to $32.8 million, up from $24.2 million.
For the six-month period, Special Devices saw its net income rise 52% to $4.38 million, up from $2.89 million in the same period a year earlier. The company also saw its sales rise 29% to $60.3 million, up from $46.8 million.
