Re “Defense Dollar Differences,” May 21: I realize the figures are a couple years old, but so revelatory! If Russia, Japan, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and China declare war on the U.S., we can go down in flames with the reassurance that we outspent their aggregate total for defense. The more interesting figure would be what the per capita dollar amounts would be.
Personally, I’m tired of our being the policeman for the world. Let someone forking out 1.1% or 2% carry their share of the load.
