ISSUES FACING DENOMINATION: Episcopal Bishop James Stanton of Dallas, national president of the conservative American Anglican Council, will speak to the new organization’s Los Angeles chapter today during the 9 a.m. to noon meeting at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 11605 Magnolia Blvd., North Hollywood. Stanton, who was rector of Glendale’s St. Mark’s Episcopal Church from 1987 to 1992, will discuss the council’s views on issues that will face the denomination at its triennial convention in Philadelphia in July. TALK ON HEALTH AND PEACE: Clifton King, director of the Philosophical Center for Religious Studies, will resume weekly interfaith celebrations with an emphasis on “health, peace of mind and spiritual fulfillment,” from 10 to 11 a.m. Sundays at the Beverly Garland Theatre, 4222 Vineland St., North Hollywood. ANNIVERSARY: Bishop Paul W. AWARD FOR LOCAL MAN: Greek Orthodox layman Nicholas Royce of North Hollywood, a dancer who performed in the 1950s, will be presented with a special humanitarian award by the Film Advisory Board at its Award of Excellence Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Century Club in Century City. SPECIAL WEEK OF SERVICES: Congregation Beth Knesset Bamidbar will celebrate the holiday of Shavuot, the Festival of Weeks, at 7 p.m. Tuesday with a children’s service, and 10 a.m. Wednesday with morning services at the synagogue, 1611 East Avenue J, in Lancaster. Shavuot, a holiday originally celebrated to commemorate the harvest of the spring barley crop, includes such special observances as reading the Ten Commandments and recreating the revelation at Sinai. RETIREMENT SERVICE: A farewell liturgy and reception will be held in honor of Father John D. Murray, pastor of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Canoga Park. In addition to his work at Our Lady of the Valley, Father Murray has been counseling prison inmates and will continue to conduct prison ministries.
