Seven Orange County schools have been honored for outstanding Peer Assistance Leadership Programs by the Orange County Department of Education.

The program encourages peer relationships to help prevent alcohol, tobacco and drug use. Students in the 122 participating Orange County schools also serve as tutors and conflict managers on campus.

Schools honored for outstanding programs were Horace Mann Elementary in Anaheim; San Juan Elementary in San Juan Capistrano; Spring View Middle in Huntington Beach; Los Alisos Middle in Mission Viejo; Huntington Beach High and Mountain View High in Santa Ana. Aliso Niguel High in Aliso Viejo was recognized for having the best new program.

Nadine Skutnik, pupil services specialist for the Anaheim City School District, was cited for helping to develop the program across the district.
