Buena Goes Down in Three Games

The Buena High boys’ volleyball team lost to Dos Pueblos, 15-11, 15-8, 15-9, Thursday at Buena and missed a chance to move up in the Channel League standings.
Matt Prosser, who has signed with Long Beach State, had 17 kills and Joe Callahan added nine for the Bulldogs (7-4, 5-4).
Dos Pueblos (8-3, 6-3) is the second-ranked team in the Southern Section Division II.
In other boys’ volleyball matches:
Sylmar d. North Hollywood, 15-12, 15-5, 15-6--Robert Romero had 14 kills and five blocks for the Spartans (7-5, 5-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at North Hollywood.
Monroe d. Reseda 15-3, 15-3, 15-5--Razell Loveria had nine kills for the Vikings (8-4, 8-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Monroe.
Grant d. Poly, 15-13, 16-14, 15-4--Woojoo Chung had 18 kills and Steven Ross added 13 for the Lancers (10-2, 7-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Poly.
Providence d. Windward, 16-14, 15-3, 15-7--Jose Tano had 12 kills for the Pioneers (11-0, 5-0), the ninth-ranked team in Division III, in a Liberty League match at Providence.
Van Nuys d. Canoga Park, 15-7, 10-15, 15-13, 9-15, 15-9--Ioannis Avramis had 19 kills for the Wolves (10-2, 8-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Van Nuys.
Bobby Wronkowski had 27 kills for Canoga Park (6-5, 4-4).
Notre Dame d. Chaminade, 13-15, 15-11, 15-5, 15-10--Brandon Melchior had 21 blocks for the Knights (2-7, 2-5) in a Mission League match at Chaminade.
St. Francis d. Pilgrim, 15-5, 15-0, 15-9--Freddy Aldana had six kills for the Golden Knights (7-6) in a nonleague match at St. Francis.
Bell-Jeff d. St. Genevieve, 12-15, 15-10, 15-13, 15-2--Marcos Flores had 25 kills and 14 blocks and Brandon Berkmeyer had 17 kills and nine blocks for the Guards (12-5, 9-1) in a Santa Fe League match at St. Genevieve.
BOYS’ TRACK
Buena 104, Oxnard 50, Santa Barbara 30--Courtney Palmore of Oxnard won the 100 meters in a wind-aided 10.2 seconds and the 200 in 22.9 in a Channel League meet at Santa Barbara City College.
Rio Mesa 91, Dos Pueblos 27--Kris Phillips won the long jump at 20-10 and the triple jump at 42-1 for the Spartans (6-1, 5-0) in a Channel League meet at Dos Pueblos.
Rio Mesa meets Ventura (5-1, 5-0) for the league title Tuesday.
Ventura 98, San Marcos 56, Hueneme 32--Matt Appel won the 200 in 22.6, the 400 in 53.2 and ran legs on the victorious 400 and 1,600 relay teams for the Cougars (5-1, 5-0) in a Channel League meet at San Marcos.
Notre Dame 97, Harvard-Westlake 30--Justin Fargas won the 100 in 10.9, the 200 in 22.0 and the long jump with a career-best 21-9 for the Knights (6-0, 5-0) in a Mission League meet at Harvard-Westlake.
GIRLS’ TRACK
Quartz Hill 121, Antelope Valley 4--Danielle Day won three events and the Rebels (5-0, 5-0) clinched the Golden League title at Antelope Valley.
Day, runner-up in the 1996 Southern Section Division I cross-country championships, clocked 2:29.4 in the 800 meters, 5:39.9 in the 1,600 and 11:52.4 in the 3,200.
Notre Dame 78, Harvard-Westlake 49--Stephanie Werth won the 100 in 12.8, the long jump at 15-7 3/4 and the triple jump at 34-1 1/2 for the Knights (6-0, 5-0) in a Mission League meet.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Van Nuys 5, Monroe 2--Gregg Choe, Kevin Sauk and Sammy Choo won singles matches to help the Wolves clinch the Valley Pac-8 Conference title in the regular-season finale at Van Nuys.
Van Nuys (12-1, 10-0) won its 11th consecutive match. Monroe (10-3, 8-2) finished second.
Alemany 11, Viewpoint 7--Shawn Frawley swept at No. 1 singles for the Indians (3-9) in a nonleague match at Cal State Northridge.
