Cypress Reaches School Record for Softball Wins

The Cypress softball team set a school record for victories with a 5-3 decision over Riverside in an Orange Empire Conference game Friday at Cypress.
The Chargers are 51-3 overall and 16-1 in conference, breaking their mark of 50 victories established in 1993 and 1995.
Pitcher Jamie Wilkes also set a school record as she scattered five hits and struck out one to improve her record to 30-2, breaking Laura Corson’s single-season mark of 29 wins set in 1991.
In other conference games:
Golden West 4, Orange Coast 2--Jill Cardiel was three for four with a run and a run batted in and Penny Gonzalez was three for three for Golden West (9-22-1, 4-12), which swept three games from the Pirates (2-14 in conference) this season.
Saddleback 3, Irvine Valley 2 (8)--Saddleback’s Treva Whitaker led off the bottom of the eighth with a triple and scored one out later on Lisa Keenan’s single. The Gauchos (14-17-1, 8-9) took an early lead on a two-run single by Angela Jent in the second, but Irvine Valley (17-19, 3-14) tied it with two runs in the sixth.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:
Golden West 3, Palomar 0--Scott Lane had 20 kills and Greg Logan had 47 assists for Golden West (19-1, 15-1), which clinched its first conference title since 1979.
Orange Coast 3, Grossmont 0--Josh Richardson had eight kills as Orange Coast defeated Grossmont, 15-7, 15-9, 15-9, to end the regular season. Orange Coast finished second in the Orange Empire conference and will host a Southern California Regional match Tuesday.
Matt Wright had two assists for the Pirates (17-2, 15-2). Mike Adamosky had a game-high 12 kills for Grossmont (6-12, 5-12).
