Spain to Aid Panel on Basque ‘War’

MADRID — The Spanish government bowed to a Supreme Court ruling Friday and agreed to send documents from its spy agency to a judicial panel investigating a “dirty war” against Basque separatists.
Defense Minister Eduardo Serra said he hoped that the documents will help clarify whether former Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez was behind anti-terrorist death squads that killed 27 people in the 1983-87 campaign. Gonzalez has denied involvement.
