Boys and Girls Club Receives Van for Field Trips

The world just got a little bit bigger--and a little bit more accessible--for some members of the Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club in Lincoln Heights.
Thanks to a 15-passenger van donated by Laidlaw Transit, the youths will have a chance to go on monthly field trips to attractions such as Griffith Observatory and the Cabrillo Beach Museum.
“It gives them wider exposure,” said Councilman Mike Hernandez, noting that many of the club’s members have never visited the museums and sights of Los Angeles.
“It’s sad that we have a city with such great resources and people have problems with transportation.”
At a ceremony Monday, Laidlaw officials presented the van with the Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club logo to club staff members.
As a former member of the club, Hernandez said, he got opportunities he might not otherwise have had.
“I went to my first Dodger game because of the Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club,” he said. “My first Rams game was because of the club.”
