Reid Keeps Pepperdine Rolling in WCC Sweep

Rob Reid had three hits in each game and scored five runs to spark Pepperdine to a sweep of Gonzaga, 7-2 and 12-4, in a West Coast Conference doubleheader Saturday at Spokane, Wash.
First baseman Tyler Ferrer had three doubles, two in the second game, for Pepperdine (23-16, 10-1).
Steve Schenewerk (6-1) pitched a complete game in the opener and Andrew Shibilo (4-3) went 8 2/3 in the second game for the Waves.
Cal Lutheran 5-9, UC San Diego 6-6--Dave Ballon homered and doubled in the second game to help the Kingsmen (21-6) salvage a split in the nonconference doubleheader at San Diego.
Brad Smith hit three doubles, a homer and a single in the two games. Reliever Craig Arnold pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings in the first game and pitched a scoreless ninth in the second game.
Ventura 5, Pierce 4--Ventura’s Jeremy Pierce hit a two-run homer in the ninth to lift the Pirates (15-13, 5-9) in a Western State Conference game at Pierce.
Valley 10, Santa Barbara 9--Casey Roth’s double with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in Steve Guerrero with the winning run for the Monarchs in a WSC game at Valley. Brian Farlow had three hits and a run batted in for Valley (5-24-3, 4-10).
Oxnard 17, Canyons 10--Freshman shortstop Brent Egan went five for five and Matt Buttell drove in four runs with four hits for the Condors in a WSC game at Canyons (22-10, 9-5).
Hiram Damwijk drove in four runs with three hits--including a home run--for the Cougars.
Mission 11, Moorpark 7--Amador Solis hit a pair of two-run home runs and a run-scoring ground out for the Free Spirit (16-17, 7-9) in a WSC game at Mission.
Kevin Serr had three hits for Mission--including a two-run home run--and Jaime Cerna drove in three runs with a home run, single and sacrifice fly.
