‘Insider’ Candidate

Strangely, The Times endorsed the “insider” candidate for 11th City Council District--Cindy Miscikowski, a two-decade deputy to the retiring council member. The Times did this specifically because the insider would not have to waste any of her two terms “get[ting] up to speed,” or in other words, because The Times does not believe the outsider candidate could become an insider quickly enough.

This reasoning defeats the purpose of the term limits that the voters of California created precisely to replace “insiders” with people with fresh perspectives.
