Chaminade High won its second baseball tournament in five days Wednesday with an 11-6 victory in eight innings over Paso Robles in the championship game of the Paso Robles tournament.
Brian Kirby’s pinch, two-run single broke a 6-6 tie in the eighth for the Eagles (13-1), who have outscored opponents, 90-17, while winning seven consecutive games.
Chris Martinez, nine for 13 with three doubles and a triple, was selected most valuable player.
Ryan Hamill, who had a second-inning grand slam, and Chris Gray, who pitched six strong innings in the final, were named to the all-tournament team.
Camarillo 5, Thousand Oaks 3--Jeff Bannon and Andy Kroneberger had two-out RBI-singles for the Scorpions (11-2, 3-0) in the fourth inning of a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.
Ryan Geisler escaped a jam in the seventh to get his first save.
Channel Islands 10, Newbury Park 4--Jared Krehbiel had three hits, including a two-run home run, and scored two runs for the Raiders (8-5, 1-2) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
Simi Valley 7, Agoura 6--Brett Scott’s single tied the score and the Pioneers scored the winning run on an error in the sixth inning of a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.
Darren Campbell of Simi Valley (7-5, 2-1) struck out the side in the seventh.
Valencia 12, Brentwood 4--Brian Otis had three hits, five RBIs and scored three runs for the Vikings (8-5) in the championship game of the L.A. Baptist tournament in Westwood.
Littlerock 5, Quartz Hill 2--Jason Raine threw a six-hitter and struck out four for the Lobos in a Golden League game at Quartz Hill.
Hart 5, Royal 1--Brian Hernandez (3-2) struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings of relief as the Indians (8-6) finished third in the Corona Del Mar tournament.
SOFTBALL
Simi Valley 5, Arroyo Grande 2--Lori Tande had two hits and picked up the victory in relief as the Pioneers (8-2) finished fourth in the Righetti tournament.
Ventura 8, Lompoc 5--Freshman Meaghin Nuckols (1-1) scattered 10 hits for the Cougars (2-11) in a Righetti tournament game.
Reseda 13, Grant 2--Stephanie Yeatts pitched a one-hitter and struck out 13 for the Regents (3-3) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener at Grant (1-5).
Sylmar 16, Van Nuys 9--Nadine Traba had two hits, four RBIs and scored three runs for the Spartans (2-7) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener at Sylmar.
Poly 6, North Hollywood 2--The Parrots (5-2) scored four runs in the fourth with the help of five walks in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener at Poly.
Monroe 29, Canoga Park 2--Lupe Brambila had five hits, including her sixth and seventh home runs, and drove in seven runs for the Vikings (4-6) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Monroe.
