Herbert, Lucero Complete One-Two Punch for Hoover

Freshman Cori Herbert and junior Erin Lucero each pitched two-hitters and Hoover High swept Long Beach Jordan, 10-1 and 13-1, in a nonleague softball doubleheader Saturday at Jordan.
Herbert (7-3) struck out 16 and walked one in the first game.
In the second game, Lucero picked up her first decision of the season with a 12-strikeout, two-walk performance. Diane Lee had four hits for Hoover (8-3).
On the day, Guinevere Platt had five hits and two runs batted in for the Tornadoes and Herbert, who played first base in the second game, had three hits and seven RBIs.
Glendale 4-6, Burroughs 3-9--Burroughs (9-5) had six consecutive hits in a seven-run first inning before holding on in the second game of a nonleague doubleheader at Glendale.
Dani Morris, bound for Cal State Northridge, was three for three with two doubles and two RBIs in the second game for Burroughs. Chantel Jiminez added two hits and three RBIs.
In the first game, a two-run triple by Kelly Cook highlighted a four-run second inning for Glendale (6-3).
Crescenta Valley 1, Cerritos 0--Heidi Huchthausen hit a run-scoring triple in the fourth inning for the Falcons (11-1) in the Irvine Woodbridge tournament. Melinda Moulden (9-1) pitched a one-hitter, striking out one and walking none.
Earlier, Moulden pitched a two-hitter, striking out four and walking one, in a 6-0 victory over Irvine University that was called after six innings because of a mercy rule. Leslie Linnemeyer had a two-run double for Crescenta Valley.
