In the semifinals of Garden Grove softball tournament:
Calvary Chapel 5, Santa Margarita 1 (6 innings)--Amanda Hallaway hit a bases-loaded triple in the bottom of third to cap a five-run inning as Calvary Chapel defeated 10th-ranked Santa Margarita. Calvary Chapel (7-2) plays Cerritos Gahr, a 3-0 winner over Los Alamitos, in the championship game Monday.
Linda Van Hook (3-0) pitched a complete game, giving up one run on five hits for Calvary Chapel.
In the quarterfinals:
Calvary Chapel 7, Sonora 1 (6, time limit)--Amanda Hallaway hit a three-run homer in bottom of the first for Calvary Chapel. Linda Van Hook hit a two-run homer in the second to ignite a four-run inning for Calvary Chapel.
Keri Przygocki (4-2) pitched a complete game, giving up one unearned run on six hits and a walk for Calvary Chapel.
Los Alamitos 3, Dana Hills 1 (6, time limit)--Sara Kahler and Angelina Herrera each hit triples for Los Alamitos (5-2). Cyndi Tredway had a double for the Griffins.
Santa Margarita 4, Orange Lutheran 0 (5, time limit)--Jackie Farmer pitcher her third shutout of the tournament for Santa Margarita (7-2).
In the Bullhead City (Ariz.) softball tournament:
Woodbridge 2, Scottsdale Chapparel (Ariz.) 0--Tracy Alcaraz pitched a four-hit shutout for fourth-ranked Woodbridge (10-2), which broke Chapparel’s 62-game winning streak to capture the championship. In an earlier game, Woodbridge defeated top-ranked Mater Dei, 1-0.
Natasha Watley led off with a single, Nichole Thompson beat out a sacrifice bunt and the Warriors’ next bunt attempt was thrown away, enabling Watley to score.
Sophomore Marissa Young (6-1) gave up three hits, struck out nine and walked one for Mater Dei (8-1). Christy Robitaille (7-2) gave up four hits, struck out six and didn’t walk a batter for the Warriors (9-2).
El Toro 3, Glendale Deer Valley (Ariz.) 0--Suzanne Guy pitched a two-hit shutout as El Toro defeated Glendale Deer Valley, last season’s Arizona state runner-up. For Guy, it was her third shutout for the tournament.
Rachael Wennekamp hit a two-run single for the Chargers (9-3) in the fifth inning.
In the Anaheim Lions baseball tournament:
Katella 8, Etiwanda 4 (5, time limit)--Adam Lawnsdale had a hit and two RBIs in a first-round victory for eighth-ranked Katella (5-3). The Knights only had four hits but drew 12 walks.
Kennedy 3, El Modena 0--Ryan Roberson gave up two hits over 3 2/3 innings to pick up his second victory for Kennedy (7-3). Garrett Sabol had three hits, an RBI and a stolen base for the Fighting Irish in the first-round victory.
