Camarillo at Its Worst, So Westlake Takes First

Westlake High routed Camarillo, 14-4, in what was supposed to be a battle for first place in a Marmonte League boys’ tennis match Wednesday at Camarillo.
Darren Joe and Alex Yaftali each swept three sets at Nos. 1 and 2, and the Warriors (5-0, 3-1 in league play) won eight of nine singles sets.
No. 2 Mike Mancini had the only singles victory for Camarillo (5-2, 3-1).
Royal 10, Newbury Park 8--The Panthers (3-4, 2-2) took seven of nine singles sets but the Highlanders turned the tables by winning eight of nine doubles sets in a Marmonte League match at Royal.
Donald Oh and Jesse Jin swept at No. 1 double doubles for Royal (2-5, 1-3).
Hoover 13, La Canada 5--Danny Kim swept at No. 1 singles for the Tornadoes, including a 6-4 victory over Parker Collins, at La Canada.
Collins, a sophomore, won a section championship in doubles last year. The Tornadoes (4-2) won eight of nine doubles sets.
Campbell Hall 11, Chaminade 7--Adam Zunder, 20-1 this season, won his three singles matches, and Josh Glass and James Chun ran their doubles record to 26-1 with three victories for the Vikings (9-0) at the Racquet Centre.
BASEBALL
Agoura 12, Newbury Park 5--Michael Falco hit a three-run home run for the Chargers (5-2) in a Marmonte League opener at Newbury Park. Daniel Greene had three hits for Newbury Park (4-3).
Westlake 4, Simi Valley 3--David Williamson’s two-run single with two out in the seventh tied the score, 3-3, and Mike Brin delivered the game-winning single for Westlake in a Marmonte League game at Westlake.
Andy Karp and Brandon Voorhees homered for Simi Valley.
Moorpark 8, St. Bonaventure 7--Chris Brossard singled home Wes Rasmussen with the winning run in the sixth at Moorpark.
St. Genevieve 9, Frazier Mountain 5--Danny Buhler had two hits, including a three-run home run, and drove in five runs for the Valiants (3-3) in an L.A. Baptist tournament game at Frazier Mountain.
St. Francis 18, Harvard-Westlake 14--The Golden Knights scored 11 runs, seven unearned, in the sixth inning of a Mission League game at Harvard-Westlake.
Fernando Valenzuela Jr. and Jim Hemmings each had three hits and three RBIs for St. Francis.
Thousand Oaks 4, Channel Islands 3--Aaron Boynton pitched a four-hitter for the Lancers (3-2) and Alex Russell had two hits and drove in two runs in a Marmonte League opener at Channel Islands.
SOFTBALL
Burroughs 8, Louisville 6--Gabi Morris had two hits and two RBIs for the Indians (5-2) at Tarzana Park.
Jemma Santos went four for four and hit two home runs for Louisville (3-2).
Harvard-Westlake 7, La Canada 0--Corrie Roberts had two hits, including a solo home run, and Anna Russell struck out nine for the Wolverines (7-0) at Harvard-Westlake.
Highland 5, Apple Valley 3--Jennifer Duroste had three hits and Kelly Presten pitched a three-hitter at Apple Valley (5-3).
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Royal d. Newbury Park, 15-10, 15-5, 15-4--Ryan Denihan had 13 kills for the Highlanders (4-0, 3-0), ranked No. 5 in Southern Section Division I, in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
Canyon d. Highland, 15-13, 15-6, 15-4--Tom Haight had 20 kills but the Bulldogs (2-1) lost at Highland.
Chatsworth d. Kennedy, 15-6, 15-8, 8-15, 15-5--Stephen Wiessner had 16 kills for the Chancellors (2-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference opener at Chatsworth.
Quartz Hill d. Valencia, 15-10, 15-8, 4-15, 15-4--Craig Stevenson had 11 kills, 14 digs and five blocks for the Rebels (2-1) at Quartz Hill.
Taft d. Cleveland, 15-11, 15-9, 15-13--Joe Nargi had 19 kills for the Toreadors (4-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference opener at Cleveland.
BOYS’ TRACK
Birmingham 118, Kennedy 9--Demetrus Patterson won the 100-meter dash in 10.6, the 200 meters in 21.8 and anchored both relay victories for the Braves (2-0, 2-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at Birmingham.
Canoga Park 93, Grant 38--Bruce Buenaventura won at 100 and 200 meters and anchored the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams for the Hunters (1-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at Canoga Park.
North Hollywood 88, Van Nuys 39--Paul Muite won at 800 meters in 2:01.65, the 1,600 in 4:38.42 and the 3,200 in 11:11.0, and also anchored the winning 1,600 relay team for the Huskies (2-0, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at North Hollywood.
El Camino Real 81, Cleveland 41--Sean Miller won the 120-yard high hurdles in 17.25, the 330 intermediate hurdles in 45.45 and the long jump at 17-11 for the Conquistadores (1-1, 1-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at El Camino Real.
GIRLS’ TRACK
North Hollywood 98, Van Nuys 20--Maria Herrera won the 800 meters in 2:45.45, the 1,600 in 5:57.0 and the 3,200 meters in 13:20 for the Huskies (2-0, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at North Hollywood.
Taft 89, Granada Hills 37--Frances Santin won both hurdles events and ran on both winning relay teams for the Toreadors (2-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at Taft.
