Danielle Rainey’s offense and her teammates’ strong defensive pressure led Crenshaw High to a 73-53 victory over Harbor City Narbonne in the City Section Division 4-A girls’ championship game Friday night in front of an estimated 2,500 at the Sports Arena.
Rainey scored 28 points in 25 minutes and teammate Naila Moseley scored 11 points, grabbed five rebounds and had five steals to lead the Cougars (23-3).
After a tight first half, Crenshaw used a full-court pressure defense for most of the third quarter, holding Narbonne to one basket and owning a 54-34 lead at the end of the period.
Crenshaw finished the third quarter with a 10-0 run.
Khristian Jackson, who led Narbonne with 19 points, scored 10 seconds into the fourth quarter to break the spell, but by then it was too late for the Gauchos (20-4).
Kawai Matthews scored 15 points and Amber White had 13 rebounds for Narbonne.
