City Plans Event to Mark Arbor Day

Oxnard has been selected as a Tree City USA for the 14th year and will host a tribute to trees in an Arbor Day celebration today.
A Tree City USA designation recognizes those communities that effectively manage their public tree resources. Such cities must observe Arbor Day, spend at least $2 per capita on their annual forestry plans--which must be written--and have a board or department responsible for tree management.
Arbor Day, which promotes environmental stewardship, is celebrated at different times from January through May. State observances are often held on the last Friday in April.
Oxnard’s public observance, starting at 10 a.m. at Sierra Linda Park, will include refreshments and a tree-planting ceremony.
