Library’s New Hours Will Help Commuters

In response to requests by users, the Calabasas Library will operate under new hours beginning Tuesday.
The change was made partly to accommodate commuters driving home from work in the evenings, library officials said. The library is not expanding its hours, just rescheduling its staff and staying open two hours later on weekends.
“We found that we didn’t really have many people coming in Saturday mornings,” said Sheila Hein, community library manager. “We’d open at 9, and there would only be two people here until about 11. I guess people had other things to do on Saturday mornings, like sleep.”
The new schedule is 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. The library is closed Sundays and Mondays.
The changes are the result of a customer survey taken last year to determine the most convenient hours for the community.
Also, the hours for the library’s three story times will change. The Pajama Storytime is 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, the Toddler Storytime is 11:30 a.m. Fridays and the Preschool Storytime is 1:30 p.m. Fridays.
Regular storyteller Bonnie Raphael will conduct a workshop at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 11 for kindergarten through eighth-graders to help them write, illustrate and bind their own books. The workshop is free, but participants must register at the library by Friday.
The Calabasas Library, 23645 Calabasas Road, offers free Internet access, videos and books on audiotape in addition to books and reference materials.
