Scoreless Match Is Still Eventful

Two shots by St. Francis High players hit the goalpost during overtime of a scoreless Mission League match Saturday against host Harvard-Westlake.
The match was not without excitement throughout.
Ben Cahan of Harvard-Westlake (7-5-2, 2-3-1 in league play) was briefly knocked unconscious following a collision with a defender in the penalty box, St. Francis Coach Glenn Appels was ejected in the 30th minute for yelling at an official, and Chris Mazzone of St. Francis was red-carded after a rough play.
In other boys’ matches:
Buena 1, Ventura 1--Dillion Chappell scored with seven minutes remaining, enabling Buena to salvage a tie in a Channel League match at Ventura.
The Bulldogs (11-2-5, 5-1-3) fell behind midway through the second half when Ryan Hart scored for the Cougars (5-6-2, 3-4-2).
Simi Valley 3, Channel Islands 1--Ryan Meuse, Arik Wilson and Christian Weitzel each scored for the Pioneers (16-4-3, 6-2-2) in a Marmonte League match at Channel Islands.
Newbury Park 6, Thousand Oaks--Goalie Mario Vargas posted his eighth shutout for the Panthers (12-4-1, 5-3) in a Marmonte League match at Newbury Park.
Casey Schmidt scored twice for Newbury Park, which outshot the Lancers (9-7, 4-4), 12-5.
Westlake 2, Agoura 1--The Warriors scored with less than five minutes remaining in overtime in a Marmonte League match at Westlake.
Agoura fell to 3-7-3, 1-6-2 in league play.
Notre Dame 6, Alemany 1--Pat Thomsen had two goals and one assist in the second half to break the Mission League match open for the host Knights (9-6-1, 5-3).
Goalie Juan Plascencia made four saves in 65 minutes for Notre Dame.
Bryan Peterson’s goal was the lone bright spot for the Indians (2-10-2, 0-5).
Crespi 1, Loyola 0--Bharat Sahgal scored for the Celts (12-4-1, 6-2) in a Mission League match at Crespi.
Fillmore 4, Oak Park 1--Rafael Laureano had two goals for the Flashes (12-0, 9-0) in a Tri-Valley League match at Oak Park.
GIRLS
Notre Dame 2, Alemany 1--Bri Hadfield and Katie Carlin scored for the Knights in a Mission League match at Notre Dame.
