Irvin’s Collarbone Is Not Broken

Associated Press

Michael Irvin’s collarbone isn’t broken after all, but the bone around Deion Sanders’ right eye might be, the Dallas Cowboys said.

Irvin injured his right shoulder after making a catch on the Cowboys’ second offensive play in a 26-17 loss at Carolina on Sunday. The team originally said he sustained a sprained shoulder but later changed the diagnosis to a broken collarbone.

But a CAT scan revealed that Irvin’s shoulder was sprained.

Sanders was injured late in the game when he was tackled on a reverse, and spent Sunday night in a Charlotte, N.C., hospital. He returned to Dallas on Monday and was expected to be examined to determine whether he has a broken bone around his eye.

San Francisco President Carmen Policy said the 49ers probably have about a one in four chance of re-signing quarterback Elvis Grbac, whom they are grooming to replace Steve Young as the team’s quarterback.

Grbac has been schooled in the 49er offense for four seasons as Young’s backup, but is a free agent and probably can command a major salary elsewhere.
