VALENCIA — A woman was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer truck early Saturday when she apparently stepped onto the Golden State Freeway in the dark, according to authorities.
The woman appeared to be in her 30s but no other information about her was known, said Officer Garry Goldenberg, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol. It was not known why she had wandered onto the freeway, he said.
The accident occurred about 1:35 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the freeway just north of Magic Mountain Parkway, authorities said.
The driver of the truck said he was traveling at about 55 mph when he saw “something” dart in front of his truck, said Bob Weaver, a CHP spokesman.
The woman was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where she died a short time later, Weaver said.
“She’s still a [Jane] Doe at this time” said Lt. Tom Schwabe, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
