Gary Kemp made one free throw with less than a second remaining to lift Long Beach over host Irvine Valley, 74-73, in the first round of the Bill Mulligan Classic men’s basketball tournament Thursday.
Irvine Valley’s Mike Scaglione made two free throws to tie it, 73-73, with 17 seconds remaining, but then Kemp was fouled going after an offensive rebound.
