Army Charges 4 in Sex Probe at Missouri Base

FT. LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — Four more noncommissioned officers at this Army base have been charged with having improper personal relationships with trainees, the Army said Friday.
The charges, which range from failing to obey a lawful general regulation to indecent assault, may or may not result in courts-martial, a spokesman at the base said.
The disclosure of fresh charges against soldiers was the latest development in the sexual-misconduct scandal that has rocked this training base in recent days.
The spokesman said the four soldiers who were charged Friday were among the 10 who had been suspended pending an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct. He said the others were still under investigation.
A drill sergeant was discharged, demoted and sentenced to confinement Wednesday after admitting having sex with three female recruits at the base.
Army regulations forbid sexual relationships between commanders and subordinates.
The Army said the latest charges were not related to the unfolding rape and sexual-harassment scandal at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
