Hoping to strengthen its bond with Spitak, Armenia, the Thousand Oaks Sister City Committee is presenting the third annual Armenian American Cultural Concert tonight at the Civic Arts Plaza’s Forum Theatre.
The concert will feature performances by concert pianist Khachik Kyurkchyan and soprano Rima Karapetyan and the premiere by the 13-piece Sister City String Ensemble of Psalm 40, a composition by Albert Darakjian. Actor Paul Severance will be master of ceremonies.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for those 18 and under. Proceeds from the previous two concerts have been used to repair 30 earthquake-damaged homes in Spitak and to bring a young Armenian musician to Thousand Oaks, said organizer Annabelle Lee Darakjian, the composer’s wife.
This year, the Sister City Committee paid for Cal Lutheran University student Paul Treiberg to visit Armenia and learn about the needs of the country’s youth.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets should still be available today at the Civic Arts Plaza box office. For information, call 449-ARTS.
