School Officials Are Hypocrites

* Re “Schools Guard Against Illegal Enrollments,” May 13:
I find the Orange County public school officials guilty of unbelievable hypocrisy. Aren’t these the same officials who said that it would be unethical for them to ask children or their parents their citizenship status when an overwhelming majority of California citizens voted for Proposition 187?
Aren’t these the same officials who said they were not police and would never report anyone whose legal status in our country was in question?
Yet, according to your story, these same officials do not have any problem questioning neighbors, going through closets, inspecting private residences for clues of district residency violations.
I have a real problem with a bureaucracy that will punish its own legal citizens by tossing the kids out of their schools if they have illegally crossed school district lines but will turn a blind eye to people who have illegally crossed our borders.
