Fountain Valley Shuts Out Huntington Beach

Kevin Burford hit his ninth and 10th home runs Friday to help host Fountain Valley, ranked third in Orange County, defeat Huntington Beach, 7-0, in a Sunset League baseball game.

Burford also had four RBIs for the Barons (20-6, 12-3 in league), the defending Southern Section Division I champions.

Fountain Valley pitchers Kameron Nielsen and Steve Schenewerk combined on a five-hitter. Schenewerk earned the victory in relief, improving to 12-2.

Huntington Beach is 12-14, 5-10.

In the Academy League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 16, St. Michael’s 5 (6, mercy)--Brian Roth had a three-run homer in the fifth and Derek Sommerville added a two-run triple in the sixth for fourth-place Capistrano Valley Christian (6-13, 5-5).

Liberty Christian 12, St. Margaret’s 0--Mike Winters pitched a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks and Bryan Davis had two hits and three RBIs for visiting Liberty Christian (13-6, 7-3), which finished second in league. St. Margaret’s (8-7-1, 6-4) finished third.
