Sylmar’s Dawes Does It All in Victory Over Jefferson

Kevin Dawes had 23 kills, five blocks and 18 digs Friday to lead the Sylmar High boys’ volleyball team past Jefferson, 7-15, 15-9, 15-9, 15-9, in a City Section 3-A Division quarterfinal playoff match at Sylmar.

Tony Linares of third-seeded Sylmar (14-1) added 10 kills and had six of the Spartans’ 24 blocks. Sylmar will meet Fairfax in the semifinals Tuesday.

Elias Jimenez had 14 kills for the sixth-seeded Democrats (12-2).

Eagle Rock d. Grant, 15-13, 15-10, 15-8--Andy Rivera had 18 kills and 11 digs for the top-seeded Eagles (15-0) in a City 3-A quarterfinal at Eagle Rock. The Eagles play Marshall in the semifinals Tuesday.

Fairfax d. Van Nuys, 15-4, 15-3, 15-11--Charlie Maranan had 22 kills, eight digs and 12 blocks for the Lions (13-3) in a City 3-A quarterfinal match at Fairfax.

Alan Chiu had 12 kills and Jerry Lai added 10 for the Wolves (8-7).

Granada Hills d. Bell, 15-3, 15-2, 15-8--Don Puathasnanon had 16 kills and 15 assists and Chris Tan had eight kills and five blocks for the third-seeded Highlanders (13-2) in a City 4-A quarterfinal match at Granada Hills. The Highlanders will meet Chatsworth in the semifinals Tuesday.

Chatsworth d. Westchester, 15-10, 15-13, 15-12--Stephen Wiessner had 18 kills for the Chancellors (13-2) in the 4-A quarterfinal at Chatsworth.

Chris Wilson added 16 kills and four blocks for Chatsworth.

Los Altos d. Palmdale 15-3, 16-14, 15-9--Aaron Halcomb had 11 kills and Murad Dibbini had 19 assists but the Falcons (11-7) were eliminated from the Division II playoffs in a first-round match at Los Altos.

Moorpark d. Oakwood, 15-4, 15-4, 13-15, 15-1--Brendan Hansen had nine kills for the Musketeers (13-2) in a Division III playoff opener at Moorpark.

Campbell Hall d. Windward, 15-1, 15-1, 15-0--Dylan Herrick had eight kills for the second-seeded Vikings (15-1), who needed just 38 minutes to defeat the Wildcats (10-6) in a Division III first-round match. Campbell Hall will meet Carpinteria in the second round Tuesday.

Canyon d. Quartz Hill, 15-9, 15-7, 14-16, 15-8--Steve Snow had 23 kills and Rick Sweetnam had 18 kills and seven blocks for the Cowboys (14-2) in a Division II first-round match at Canyon.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Glendale 18, Notre Dame 0--Ji Chung and Philip Yim each won three singles matches for the Dynamiters (17-1) in a wild-card match of the Southern Section Division II playoffs at Glendale.

Hart 11, Malibu 7--Adam Galliath won three matches at No. 1 singles for the Indians (11-5) in a Division III wild-card playoff at Hart.
